So, when I started this thing, I wanted it to be ridiculously simple so that it had a long life and would be easier to maintain. In this vain, I chose a layout that, at the time, seemed to exemplify what I was aiming for.

What I forgot was that I don’t really like simple, unless it looks pretty. So here is my attempt at pretty while staying simple.

Yes, I know it isn’t that cool right now, but what I have planned for it will add to its coolness factor. There are two enhancements that I’m planning on right now:

Global theme based on header image
Dynamic segments of varying opacity overlaying the header image

I’ll also try to make better use of Lifestream, because I think its an awesome way of bringing everything together where it matters.

Additionally, some issues:

IE6 didn’t really like this layout due to its stupid disappearing bug. I’ve hacked you, IE6.
IE7 refuses to put a background on bottom bar. I refuse to fight with you, IE7.
Firefox, Safari, Opera: thank you.

WordPress upgrade complete.

Good news of the day: the process of completing (starting) an old project has spun off another project that’s pretty cool, and possibly could be really interesting/useful. Also, I’ll have another site for these comments up shortly (bye bye, penrev).

Bad news: the spam bots have found this blog. Sigh.

Twittering Terrorists

That was a headline of some article i didn’t pay much attention to in my iGoogle. Anyways, it provides the perfect transition to a discussion of Twitter and my failed (lack of) attempt(s) at using this blog to capture personal, daily events.

side bar: Could I have just labeled the post Twitter? Yes. But what fun would that be?

So, yeah, there isn’t much to say aside from the fact that producing truly private posts is more difficult than it should be, and is not sustainable from a development standpoint.

side bar: Lily Allen is annoying me right now, so if I seem cranky, there you go.

So Twitter? Yeah, Twitter. Leo made me sign up for it the other day, and although I’m still going through the motions (honestly haven’t used it much at all), I think it’d be an interesting way of capturing daily events. The obvious gotcha being privacy, but meh. Anyways, between that, and possibly making use of the Facebook status message, I think there’s a possibility of harvesting that information for self-development purposes. I’m contemplating turning this into a larger scale project so I’m holding back on details.

I guess you came all this way for nothing. Huzzah! Disappointment…

Somehow, inexplicably and unexpectedly, someone’s already seen the updates to this site. Impressive, and slightly sad, but regardless, a few questions need answering…

First, this site will remain independent of virajs.com until the major pieces are in place.

Apparently, 8 random people (excluding robots) come to this site (or virajs.com) everyday. I decided I’d give my guests something new, and existent, due to their probable disappointment in clicking the wrong link.

In actuality, this refresh was in the works for a year or so. In further actuality, its root cause is that I decided to keep better track of my life. This endeavor was excited by Demetri Martin, as well as the journal carrying escapades of Leo Romanovsky. The purpose is to better keep track of my life and to determine if I’m going anywhere. How this all works? I’m not sure.

All I know is I can’t, well won’t, numerically analyze my progress Demetri Martin style, or write in a diary every night. Being the nerd that I am, I had to leverage technology. I figured, if anything, I could hack wordpress to allow me to take daily notes, and share what I found funny and interesting along the way.
